Atari 130XE

Released in 1985, the Atari 130XE marked the pinnacle of Atari’s 8-bit line. It built upon the popular 800XL, doubling the RAM to a full 128 KB and featuring a redesigned casing in a light gray color that visually aligned with Atari’s new ST line.

Although it arrived at a time when 16-bit machines were entering the market, the 130XE remained a popular choice for home users and schools. It offered full backward compatibility with earlier Atari 8-bit computers and peripherals, and its expanded memory opened up new possibilities for both games and productivity software.

This particular machine was my second computer and the first I bought with my own money in 1986. It cost 1495 SEK and included an XC12 tape player which would be about 4000 SEK in 2025 money, about $400.
