The Dragon 32 was released in August 1982 by Dragon Data Ltd in Port Talbot, Wales. It is based on a Motorola MC6809E processor running at approximately 0.89 MHz. The system came with 32 KB of RAM and 16 KB of ROM containing Microsoft Extended BASIC.
Its video output is handled by a Motorola MC6847 Video Display Generator, offering graphic modes up to 256×192 pixels in two colors and semigraphics in 128×192 with four colors, along with text modes. Sound is generated by a single-channel speaker output, with one voice across five octaves through BASIC and four voices in machine code.
The Dragon 32 featured a 53-key QWERTY mechanical keyboard, two analog joystick ports, a cassette tape interface, a cartridge slot, composite video output (in addition to RF), and a Centronics parallel printer port.
The machine was produced in Wales and later in Spain, with production ending around 1984. It was acknowledged for being technically similar to the Tandy TRS-80 Color Computer, sharing CPU and BASIC, while offering a superior keyboard and printer connectivity. |
