Elwro 800-3

The Elwro 800-3 Junior is a Polish microcomputer released in 1986 by Wrocław Electronic Works (Elwro) as part of the 800 Junior educational series. It featured a revised motherboard (revision 3/C) which allowed optional connection of floppy disk drives via a built-in FDD controller.

The computer is based on a Zilog Z80-family processor (U880D clone) running at about 3.5 MHz and includes 64 KB of RAM. Graphics and video output are compatible with Sinclair ZX Spectrum, offering composite and RGB output for standard Spectrum modes.

It has a joystick port, Spectrum-compatible network connector (JUNET), cassette tape interface, Centronics parallel printer port, and optional disk drive connector. JUNET allowed daisy-chained serial communication between multiple units at around 55 kbit/s.

The Elwro 800-3 was primarily used in Polish schools and remains a notable example of locally produced educational computers from the Cold War era.
