| The Grundy NewBrain was released in 1982 by Grundy Business Systems Ltd in the UK. It was built around a Zilog Z80A processor running at 4 MHz and included 32 KB of RAM and 24 KB of ROM. Two main models were produced: the Model A (which required an external display) and the Model AD (which added an integrated 16-character vacuum-fluorescent display). The ROM contained an enhanced BASIC interpreter along with mathematical and graphics routines. Text modes ranged from 32×25 to 80×30, and graphics modes included up to 640×256 in monochrome. It featured two cassette ports and was expandable via an external module that allowed paging additional memory up to a maximum of 2 MB. CP/M 2.2 was supported via expansion. Over 50,000 units were sold before production ended, and some remaining models were sold in the Netherlands under different branding. |
