| Released in 1983, the Philips P2000C is a luggable portable version of the earlier P2000 series. Designed and built in Austria, it features dual 5¼-inch floppy disk drives and a built-in monochrome CRT display. The system boots into a Z80-powered CP/M environment and can run MS-DOS via an optional 8088 co-processor card. The unit includes a full-size keyboard integrated into the lid and offers various connectivity options including serial (RS-232), parallel printer port, and composite/RGB video output. It was also possible to add external peripherals such as hard drives or an external monitor. Weighing around 15 kg and powered via mains only, the P2000C was used mainly in industrial, educational, and field-service applications where portability mattered more than size. Its combination of floppy-based storage, CP/M compatibility, and optional MS-DOS support made it Philips’ most advanced P2000 machine. |
