The Olivetti Prodest PC 128 was released in Italy around 1986 and was based on the French Thomson MO6. Although the internal hardware was largely unchanged, it featured an Italian keyboard layout, PAL video output, and localized branding, including the distinctive Prodest logo.
The computer was housed in a compact case with an integrated cassette player and used a version of BASIC that supported the system’s full 128 KB memory. It remained compatible with earlier Thomson MO5 software.
Accessories like monitors, joysticks, light pens, and external floppy drives were available. Olivetti also supported the system with dedicated documentation and a user magazine. Despite these efforts, the PC 128 faced strong competition from other home computers and was never widely adopted.
It remains a notable example of how regional markets adapted existing computer platforms for local use. | |
