Sony Hit-Bit 75P

The Sony Hit-Bit HB-75P is a well-built MSX1 home computer released in the mid-1980s for the European market—indicated by the “P” for PAL. As part of Sony’s “Hit-Bit” line, it combined solid performance with thoughtful design features that made it stand out among its MSX contemporaries.

One of the most notable features of the HB-75P is its dual cartridge slots, located at the top rear of the unit. This uncommon setup allowed users to combine ROM cartridges for added flexibility with software and expansions. Unlike many budget MSX models, the HB-75P is equipped with a full-travel keyboard with responsive, comfortable keys—ideal for programming or longer typing sessions.

Under the hood, the machine is powered by a Zilog Z80A CPU running at 3.58 MHz, and includes 64 KB of RAM, in line with MSX1 standards. It runs MSX BASIC from ROM and is compatible with a wide range of software and peripherals from the MSX ecosystem.

The HB-75P provides both RF and composite video outputs, and includes ports for cassette storage, joysticks, and a printer.
