APF MP1000

The APF MP1000 is a second-generation cartridge-based home video game console released in October 1978 by APF Electronics Inc. It was among the first systems to use a Motorola 6800 CPU (running at approximately 0.895 MHz) and included 1 KB of RAM. Video output features resolutions up to 256×192 with support for eight colors, generated via a Motorola MC6847 video chip. The console includes two built-in joysticks with numeric keypads and offers 12 professionally produced game cartridges plus the built-in game, Rocket Patrol.

Approximately 50,000 units were sold. The system was also designed to integrate with the APF Imagination Machine—an add-on module that added a full keyboard, cassette storage, BASIC programming capabilities, and expanded RAM—transforming it into a hybrid home computer. Despite its forward-thinking architecture, limited game library and competition from Atari and others led to modest market performance.
