Atari Flashback

The original Atari Flashback was released in 2004 as a dedicated plug-and-play console designed to resemble a miniature Atari 7800. Developed by Legacy Engineering and released under Atari’s brand, it came preloaded with 20 built-in games, including reimagined versions of classic Atari 2600 and 7800 titles like Asteroids, Centipede, and Yars’ Revenge. Instead of original ROMs, the system used newly coded versions of games running on NES-based hardware, leading to differences in gameplay and sound. It featured two joystick-style controllers and composite video output but lacked cartridge or expansion support. Despite mixed reception, it laid the foundation for the successful Flashback series that followed.
