Gakken Compact Vision TV Boy

The Gakken Compact Vision TV Boy is a second-generation, cartridge-based home video game console released by Gakken in Japan in October 1983. Priced at ¥8,800, it was intended to compete with the dominant Epoch Cassette Vision but was overshadowed by the more advanced Nintendo Famicom and Sega SG-1000, as well as the lower-priced Cassette Vision Jr.

The console uses a Motorola MC6847 graphics generator and includes 2 KB of onboard RAM. Each cartridge contains its own Motorola MC6801 microcontroller running at 4 MHz, which hosts the game logic. Displays are rendered at 128×192 pixels in up to 9 colours (4 shown simultaneously). Only six games were officially released: Excite Invader, Mr. Bomb, Robotan Wars, Super Cobra, Frogger, and Urban War 200X.

Its unique form factor features a built-in right-hand controller shaped like a T-handle with a thumb-operated fire button, side-mounted power and pause buttons, and a start button integrated into a grip area. This design supports only one player and was often cited as awkward. Production ceased shortly after launch due to poor sales and strong competition
