The Nintendo DS Lite is a redesigned version of Nintendo’s dual-screen handheld console, the Nintendo DS, released in 2006. It features a clamshell design with two LCD screens, the lower of which is a resistive touchscreen, allowing for stylus-based input. The screens measure 3 inches diagonally and support 262,144 colors.
Under the hood, the DS Lite is powered by dual processors: an ARM946E-S main CPU at 67 MHz and an ARM7 co-processor at 33 MHz, providing backward compatibility with Game Boy Advance games. It includes 4 MB of RAM and 656 KB of VRAM for graphics processing.
The console is powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, offering roughly 15–19 hours of gameplay depending on screen brightness settings. Compared to the original DS, the DS Lite is smaller, lighter, and more power-efficient, with a brighter display and longer battery life.
The DS Lite maintains support for dual-slot cartridges: one for DS games and one for Game Boy Advance games, although GBA support is limited to certain models. The console became highly popular due to its compact design, improved ergonomics, and extensive library of games, making it one of Nintendo’s best-selling handhelds.
