Sega Mega Jet

The Sega Mega Jet is a portable version of the Sega Mega Drive (Genesis), released exclusively in Japan in 1994. Originally developed for in-flight entertainment by Japan Airlines, it was later made available for retail sale, though only a limited number were produced.

The Mega Jet lacks a built-in screen and requires connection to an external display via AV cables. It resembles a standard controller but includes a cartridge slot on the back, allowing users to play standard Mega Drive games. It features six action buttons, a D-pad, and Start button, matching the layout of Sega’s later six-button controllers.

Due to its dependence on external power and display, the Mega Jet is technically a semi-portable console rather than fully handheld. It laid the groundwork for the Sega Nomad, which would later be released in North America as a fully self-contained portable Mega Drive.
