The Neo Geo Pocket Color, released by SNK in 1999, was a handheld gaming console designed to compete in the late 1990s portable market. It was the successor to the monochrome Neo Geo Pocket and featured a full-color display, improved hardware, and a diverse game library.
The console utilized a 16-bit CPU and offered a 2.7-inch color LCD screen with a resolution of 160×152 pixels. It was praised for its solid build quality, responsive controls, and vibrant game visuals. The Neo Geo Pocket Color supported cross-platform play with select Sega Dreamcast games, a unique feature for the time.
Despite positive reviews and a strong lineup including popular titles like “SNK vs. Capcom: The Match of the Millennium,” the system struggled commercially due to limited third-party support and stiff competition from Nintendo’s Game Boy Color and later the Game Boy Advance.
