The ZX Spectrum

The ZX Spectrum is Retro Games Ltd’s full-size reimagining of the classic 1982 ZX Spectrum, announced in August 2024 and released in Europe on November 22, 2024. It faithfully replicates the original rubber-keyed design and retains an authentic user experience, including BASIC programming and support for virtual cassette loading. Internally, it emulates multiple Spectrum models (16K, 48K, +/128K) via a custom emulator running on ARM hardware and Linux.

The console includes 48 officially licensed built-in games—such as Manic Miner, The Hobbit, and Head Over Heels—with features like four save slots per game, gameplay rewind of up to 40 seconds, rewind mode, configurable CRT-style video filters, frame borders, and a selection of 12 themed display frames. Output is via 720p HDMI, with PAL and NTSC compatibility, and visuals can be displayed in original 4:3 or pixel-perfect aspect ratios. There are four USB-A ports for joysticks, gamepads, or USB flash drives (supporting Spectrum file formats like .z80, .tap, .tzx).
