Vectrex

The Vectrex is a unique home video game console released in 1982 by General Consumer Electronics (GCE), and later distributed by Milton Bradley. Unlike other consoles of the time, the Vectrex featured a built-in 9-inch black-and-white vector monitor, allowing it to display sharp, flicker-free lines instead of raster graphics. This made it the only home system to use vector display technology.

The console was powered by a 1.5 MHz Motorola 6809 processor and included a wired analog joystick with four buttons. Games were stored on cartridges, and each title came with a color overlay that was placed on the screen to simulate color graphics. The Vectrex also featured built-in sound and included a built-in game, Mine Storm, a clone of Asteroids.

Despite critical praise for its innovative display and arcade-like experience, the Vectrex was discontinued in 1984 following the video game market crash. Its high price and the niche appeal of vector graphics limited its commercial success.
