Binky is a classic-style single-screen platformer developed and published by Software Projects in 1985. Players control a red blob-like creature named Binky, whose goal is to collect all the stars scattered across each screen while avoiding moving hazards and navigating tricky platforms.
The gameplay is reminiscent of early 8-bit platformers like Manic Miner, with tight jumping mechanics and a focus on pattern recognition and timing. Although graphically simple, Binky offered a fair level of challenge and colourful, smoothly animated sprites for its time.
Reception was modest but positive. While not as groundbreaking as Software Projects’ earlier hits, such as Jet Set Willy, Binky was praised for its fast pace and old-school charm. Amstrad Action gave it a 60% rating in their debut issue (Issue 1, October 1985), noting that it was an enjoyable if somewhat basic platformer.
