Grand Prix Simulator 2

Genre: Racing / Arcade / Top-down
Publisher: Codemasters
Year: 1989
System: Amstrad CPC

Grand Prix Simulator 2 builds on the success of its predecessor, offering faster-paced top-down Formula 1 racing action. Featuring nine tracks instead of the original’s fourteen, players navigate hairpin turns and underpasses over three laps per race. Crashing damages your car, costing valuable time, and prudent use of your limited time bonuses becomes essential to progress. The game supports up to three simultaneous players, enhancing its competitive appeal. Digitized speech such as “three… two… one… go!” adds to the arcade atmosphere. With responsive cornering and a clean codebase derived from Jet Ski Simulator, it manages smooth gameplay despite CPC hardware limitations.

Although praised for its improvements and game feel, it didn’t match the original’s commercial success. Nevertheless, it remains a standout entry in Codemasters’ late‑’80s racing portfolio.
