Manic Miner

Genre: Platform
Publisher: Mastertronic
Year: 1984
System: Amstrad CPC

Manic Miner is one of the earliest and most iconic platformers on home computers, originally released by Software Projects and later reissued as a budget title by Mastertronic for the Amstrad CPC. The player takes on the role of Miner Willy, who must navigate 20 distinct and hazardous underground caverns, collecting all flashing items before his oxygen supply runs out.

Each level features unique enemies, deadly traps, and moving platforms, demanding both precision and timing. The CPC version maintains the core gameplay from the original, though with slight graphical and audio differences due to the platform’s capabilities. Despite these technical variations, the game delivers the same high level of challenge and addictive gameplay that made it a classic.
