Genre: Action / Arcade
Developer: Palladium
Publisher: Palladium
Year: 1978
Platform: Palladium Video Computer Game

Video-Breakout is an arcade-style game released for the Palladium Video Computer Game, a German clone of the Emerson Arcadia 2001 system. The game is Palladium’s version of the classic Breakout concept, which was widely adapted across home consoles in the late 1970s.

In the game, players control a paddle at the bottom of the screen, bouncing a ball upwards to destroy a formation of bricks. The objective is to clear all bricks without letting the ball pass the paddle. The game emphasizes reflexes, timing, and hand-eye coordination, with difficulty increasing as the player progresses through levels.

The graphical presentation is minimalistic, consistent with Arcadia 2001 hardware limitations. Bricks, ball, and paddle are represented by simple blocks, while audio feedback consists of basic beeps signaling collisions or lost balls. Despite the simplicity, the game’s challenge and replayability were high for its era.

Video-Breakout was part of Palladium’s effort to provide popular arcade experiences to the German home console market. Its inclusion in the Palladium catalog illustrates the trend of bringing well-known arcade hits to European Arcadia clones with minimal modification.
