Description:
Atari Assembler Editor is a development tool released by Atari in 1981 for the Atari 8-bit computers. It is a ROM cartridge providing an integrated environment to write, assemble, and debug 6502 assembly language programs without requiring external software. The editor features a two-pass assembler with basic syntax checking, memory management, and debugging capabilities. Designed by Kathleen O’Brien of Shepardson Microsystems, the Assembler Editor was intended to assist programmers in creating efficient routines that could be integrated with Atari BASIC programs. Although it provided essential functionality for assembly programming, its relatively slow assembly times made it less suitable for large projects. For more advanced needs, Atari offered the disk-based Atari Macro Assembler, which included additional features but lacked an integrated editor and debugger.
