Description:
Baja Buggies is an off-road racing game developed and published by Gamestar, Inc. for the Atari 8-bit family in 1982. The player competes in buggy races across three course types—beginner, pro, and a randomized pro course—against up to 80 opponents. Featuring a pseudo-3D behind-the-vehicle perspective and multicolored horizon effects via Display List Interrupts (DLIs), the gameplay penalizes collisions with slowdowns rather than crashes. A speedometer and race-progress indicator are displayed on-screen. The Joystick steers left and right and brakes, while acceleration is handled automatically. The game requires a disk or cassette format and supports single-player mode only. It was created by programmer Dan Ugrin.
