Beach-Head

Genre: Shoot ’em up
Publisher: U.S. Gold
Year: 1984
System: Atari 8-bit

Description:
Beach‑Head is a single-player shoot ’em up developed by Access Software and released for the Atari 8‑bit series in 1983 (U.S. version) and by U.S. Gold in Europe in 1984. The game is structured into six distinct phases simulating a World War II-style assault on a heavily defended island fortress:

  1. Aerial Reconnaissance: navigate a fleet past mines and torpedoes.
  2. Hidden Passage (optional): avoid underwater hazards.
  3. Anti-Aircraft Defense: control ship-based guns against enemy aircraft.
  4. Naval Battle: engage enemy ships before they sink your vessels.
  5. Beachhead Assault: drive tanks ashore, maneuvering around obstacles and enemy fire.
  6. Final Siege: destroy fortress emplacements on the island.

Gameplay switches perspectives and controls with each phase (e.g., fixed turret, tank-overview). Joystick input guides movement and firing. The European U.S. Gold release shares all gameplay phases and matches the U.S. Access Software version in structure and objectives.
