Description:
Boulder Dash is a side-view action-puzzle game originally developed by Peter Liepa and Chris Gray and released for the Atari 8-bit family in February 1984. The player controls Rockford, who digs through dirt to collect a required number of gems before a time limit expires, all while avoiding or strategically triggering boulders that can fall and crush both Rockford and enemies. Gameplay mechanics include falling boulders, monsters that transform into gems, and expanding amoebae—each element affecting puzzle outcomes. The Atari 8-bit version supports single-player and alternating two-player modes, with controls via joystick or keyboard. Initially released on disk and cassette by First Star Software, the game was later budget-released in the UK by Prism Leisure in 1987.
