Year: 1983
System: Atari 8-bit

Description:
Carnival Massacre, published by Thorn EMI, is an arcade-style action game where the player takes on the role of Super Sam, tasked with saving carnival visitors from two antagonists, Butcher Bill and Ruthless Rick. The gameplay is divided into two distinct stages, each with its own unique challenges.

In the first stage, players must catch passengers thrown off a Ferris wheel operated by Butcher Bill. The player moves along the ground beneath the Ferris wheel to catch the falling passengers while avoiding hazards such as falling rocks. Successfully catching enough passengers allows progression to the next stage, while missing too many causes additional obstacles to appear, increasing the challenge.

The second stage takes place around a roller coaster where Ruthless Rick has planted mines and also throws passengers. Players must again catch these passengers while dodging rocks hurled by Butcher Bill. The level maintains the fixed-screen format and demands quick reflexes and precise movement.

The game supports one or two players, alternating turns. Its fixed-screen setup and simple controls make it accessible, while the increasing difficulty through obstacles and timing keep the gameplay engaging. The graphics are typical of early 1980s home computer titles, focusing on clear visuals and straightforward action.
