Cloudburst is an arcade-style action game where the player controls Chip Montana, defending a small planet from waves of hostile cloud creatures. The game is played over twelve nights, each increasing in difficulty with enemies such as killer robots, acid rain, and firebolts attacking from above. Players can move horizontally and shoot both vertically and horizontally to destroy the attackers. The objective is to survive through all the nights while eliminating as many enemies as possible.
