Description:
Donkey Kong is a classic platform game in which the player controls Jumpman (Mario) as he attempts to rescue a damsel named Pauline from the giant ape, Donkey Kong. The game consists of multiple screens, each presenting unique platforming challenges. On the first screen, players must climb a construction site while dodging barrels and flames. Later levels involve navigating elevators, conveyor belts, and removing structural rivets to collapse the tower holding Donkey Kong.
The Atari 8-bit version is a port of Nintendo’s arcade hit, adapted under license by Atari. While this version simplifies the arcade graphics and omits some features—most notably the cement factory level—it retains the essential gameplay mechanics. Players use a joystick to run and jump, avoiding hazards and grabbing a hammer to destroy enemies. Scoring is based on time, jumping obstacles, collecting bonus items, and defeating enemies.
