Mario Bros.

Genre: Platform
Publisher: Atari
Year: 1983
System: Atari 8-bit

Mario Bros. is a two-player platform game where players take on the roles of Mario and Luigi, working together (or competing) to defeat creatures emerging from pipes in a sewer-themed arena. The gameplay takes place on a single screen, and players must flip enemies by jumping beneath the platform they’re on, then kick them off before they recover.

The Atari 8-bit version closely follows the arcade original’s mechanics, featuring familiar enemy types such as Shellcreepers, Sidesteppers, and Fighter Flies. As the rounds progress, additional hazards appear, including fireballs and icicles, increasing the challenge. The game includes cooperative multiplayer and bonus coin-collecting stages.
