Genre: Scrolling Shooter

Year: 1983
System: Atari 8-bit

Rosen’s Brigade is a horizontally scrolling shooter developed by Ron Rosen for the Atari 8-bit family of computers and published in 1983 by Gentry Software, a budget label of Datasoft. In the game, players pilot a fighter jet over a desert landscape, rescuing paratroopers falling from the top of the screen and engaging enemy air and ground vehicles.

The gameplay involves flying a fighter jet left and right over a scrolling landscape, shooting and destroying enemy forces to complete each level. Initially, the attackers are planes and helicopters, followed by tanks on the ground and ships in the water. Paratroopers fall from the top of the screen and can be rescued for points by flying over them. A mini-map displays the entire play area. Unlike similar scrolling shooters, such as Defender, the plane’s orientation changes direction when moving vertically, instead of remaining parallel to the ground.
