Star Raiders is a space combat simulator developed by Doug Neubauer and published by Atari, Inc. in 1980 for the Atari 400/800 series. The game is set during a war between the Atarian Federation and the Zylon Empire, where players assume the role of a starship pilot tasked with defending starbases and eliminating enemy forces.

The gameplay combines first-person space combat with strategic elements. Players navigate a 3D cockpit view to engage in dogfights with enemy ships, while a 2D galactic map provides an overview of the galaxy, allowing players to warp between sectors to locate and confront enemy forces. The game features various types of enemy ships, including cruisers, fighters, and basestars, each posing different challenges.

Star Raiders was notable for its innovative use of the Atari 8-bit hardware, offering immersive graphics and gameplay that were advanced for its time. It became one of the most successful games on the Atari 400/800 computers and is considered a pioneer in the space combat genre, influencing future titles such as Elite (1984) and Wing Commander (1990).
