Dragon’s Lair II: Time Warp is an interactive movie-style game released by ReadySoft for the Atari ST in 1990. It faithfully adapts the 1991 arcade sequel by Sullivan Bluth/Leland, featuring full-motion animation and timed input sequences to guide protagonist Dirk the Daring.
Players watch animated scenes and must react quickly by moving the joystick or pressing fire at the correct moment to survive. The plot follows Dirk through a time-travel adventure: rescuing Princess Daphne from the wizard Mordroc by navigating various eras, including prehistoric worlds, the Garden of Eden, and the final confrontation within Mordroc’s dimension.
The Atari ST version uses machine-language coding, supports joystick and keyboard input, and spans six floppy disks with digitized graphics and soundtrack. While some levels from the arcade version are abbreviated or omitted due to storage constraints, the port retains core scenes and animation quality. It includes a save game feature to ease progress through repetitive sequences.
Dragon’s Lair II: Time Warp was praised for delivering a cinematic arcade-like experience on the ST, though critics noted the limited replay value inherent to quick-time gameplay and its premium price at release.
