Pac‑Man is a home console port of the popular arcade game originally developed by Namco. The Atari VCS version was released in 1982 and adapts the iconic maze gameplay to the limitations of the 2600 hardware.
Players control Pac‑Man as he navigates a series of mazes filled with dots, known as pellets. The goal is to consume all pellets while avoiding four ghosts that patrol the maze. Power pellets temporarily allow Pac‑Man to eat the ghosts for extra points. The mazes and enemy behaviors increase in difficulty as the player progresses through levels.
Due to the hardware limitations of the Atari 2600, the port features simplified graphics and sound. Maze layouts are more basic than the arcade original, and sound effects are minimal. Despite these reductions, the core gameplay experience remains intact.
