Year: 1984
Platform: ColecoVision

BurgerTime is a platform action game developed by Data East and published for the ColecoVision console in 1984 by Mattel Electronics. In the game, players control chef Peter Pepper as he assembles giant hamburgers by walking over their individual ingredients—buns, patties, lettuce, and more—causing them to drop to lower platforms. The objective is to complete all the burgers on a level while avoiding enemy foods such as Mr. Hot Dog, Mr. Pickle, and Mr. Egg.

Each stage is composed of a series of ladders and platforms where burger ingredients are arranged. Walking across each ingredient causes it to fall, and if it lands on another ingredient, both drop together, allowing for chain reactions. Players can temporarily stun enemies with limited supplies of pepper, which can be replenished by collecting bonus items.

The ColecoVision version is a home adaptation of Data East’s 1982 arcade original. It retains the core gameplay mechanics and multi-level stage design, though with simplified graphics and sound suited to the console’s capabilities. Despite hardware limitations, it successfully preserves the fast-paced, strategic gameplay that made the arcade title popular.
