Year: Mid-1980s
Platform: Enterprise

Enter-Stack is a puzzle game released for the Enterprise computer in the mid-1980s. Developed and published by the Hungarian studio Novotrade, the game follows the design principles of early block-stacking titles that were beginning to gain popularity during the decade. It offers players a straightforward yet increasingly challenging objective: arrange falling geometric shapes to complete horizontal lines.

The gameplay centers on guiding shapes as they descend into the playfield. Players can move the blocks horizontally and rotate them to fit into place. Whenever a row is filled completely, it disappears, and the player earns points. Clearing more than one row at the same time grants bonus points, encouraging strategic placement of the blocks.

A defining element of Enter-Stack is its adjustable difficulty system. At the beginning of each session, players can choose a level between 0 and 9. Higher difficulty levels increase the speed of falling blocks, creating a more intense gameplay rhythm, while also awarding greater point values. This mechanic allows both beginners and experienced players to tailor the challenge to their own skill.

The game’s presentation is kept simple to emphasize gameplay over visual complexity, making it a suitable fit for the Enterprise hardware. With its fast pace, focus on quick thinking, and replayability through escalating difficulty, Enter-Stack reflects the growing appeal of puzzle-based action games in the home computer market of the 1980s.
