Classic Compendium is a digital board game collection developed by AI Factory Limited and published by Gizmondo Games in 2005 for the Gizmondo handheld console. The title features five classic Western board and tile games: Chess, Checkers, Backgammon, Reversi, and Four in a Line, all playable in a single package with optimized controls and visuals for the handheld screen.

Each included game offers multiple board designs, piece styles, and difficulty levels, with a total of 14 distinct AI opponents. The chess component utilizes the Treebeard engine—known from MSN Chess—offering human-like play. Players can adjust difficulty, view move hints, and participate in ladder rankings to track progress. A hint system is available across all games to guide users when needed.

The interface is designed for quick and smooth navigation using the Gizmondo’s controls, while menus allow easy selection of game rules and visual customization. The collection supports solo or two-player matches using local Gizmondo linking, making it ideal for casual head-to-head play. Its emphasis on replayability and strategic depth made it well-regarded among the console’s niche library.

Classic Compendium was part of the limited official release lineup for Gizmondo in 2005 and was followed by Classic Compendium 2, which included Eastern games such as Mahjong Solitaire, Xiangqi, Shogi, Gomoku, and Chinese Checkers.
