Atlantis is a fixed shooter developed and published by Imagic for the Intellivision in 1982. The game is set in the mythical city of Atlantis, which is under siege from alien forces. The player’s objective is to defend the city’s structures from waves of invading enemies, using mounted cannons placed at strategic points. If all the city’s buildings are destroyed, the game ends.
The gameplay involves controlling three defense weapons located at the left, right, and center of the screen. Each weapon has a fixed firing trajectory, requiring the player to anticipate enemy movement and fire accordingly. The enemies move in formations across the sky, and their attacks gradually destroy Atlantis’ structures if not intercepted. As the game progresses, enemy speed and attack frequency increase, creating a more challenging defense scenario.
Atlantis was part of Imagic’s strategy to produce visually appealing and fast-paced arcade-style games for home consoles. On the Intellivision, the game made use of the system’s graphical capabilities to depict colorful backgrounds and detailed sprites. The city’s destruction was a central theme, and unlike many shooters of the era, survival depended on protecting stationary targets rather than solely avoiding enemy fire.
