Carnival is a fixed shooter developed by Roklan and published by Coleco for the Intellivision in 1982. It is a home-console port of the 1980 arcade game originally developed by Gremlin and licensed via Sega. In the game, players take aim at a scrolling array of arcade-style targets in a carnival-themed shooting gallery.
Gameplay features three horizontal rows of animated targets—rabbits, ducks, owls, and pop-up pipes—moving in alternating directions. Players must conserve their limited ammunition by hitting as many targets as possible. Certain targets, like a moving duck, can retaliate by “eating” bullets if not shot in time, while other targets may yield bonus ammunition when struck.
After clearing all targets, players enter a bonus round in which they duel with one or more cartoon bears moving across the screen, using unlimited ammo to hit them as many times as possible before they exit. As levels progress, the speed of target movement increases, fewer ammunition targets appear, and the rate of duck attacks rises, creating a steeper challenge.
