Worm Whomper is an action video game released for the Intellivision in 1983. Developed by Cheshire Engineering and published by Activision, the game is a fixed shooter where players defend a corn crop from various pests. The protagonist, Felton Pinkerton, is armed with a spray gun to eliminate the invading insects.

The gameplay involves shooting at pests such as inchworms, moths, caterpillars, and slugs that approach from the right side of the screen. Players must prevent these pests from reaching the corn, as they will consume it upon contact. Each level presents a new wave of pests, increasing in speed and number, requiring quick reflexes and strategic use of the spray gun.

To aid in defense, players can utilize plough balls, which destroy all pests in their path. These plough balls are limited in number but can be replenished by eliminating a full wave of pests. Additionally, the game features a tool shed at the bottom of the screen where players can obtain a new spray gun if the current one is destroyed.

Worm Whomper is notable for its engaging gameplay and the opportunity for players to earn high score patches. To receive the “Activision Worm Whompers” patch, players needed to achieve a score of 75,000 points or higher and send a photo of the screen to Activision.
