Kinect Star Wars is a motion-controlled action game released exclusively for Xbox 360 in 2012. Developed by Terminal Reality in collaboration with LucasArts and published by Microsoft Studios, the game was designed to work with the Kinect sensor and allows players to engage with the Star Wars universe using full-body motion and gestures.
The game includes multiple gameplay modes, each representing a different aspect of the Star Wars franchise. In “Jedi Destiny,” players take on the role of a Padawan, using lightsaber and Force powers in a story-driven campaign. Other modes include “Rancor Rampage,” where players control a rancor to destroy cities; “Podracing,” inspired by Episode I; and “Galactic Dance-Off,” a rhythm game featuring Star Wars characters performing choreographed dance routines to parody versions of popular songs.
Kinect Star Wars supports single-player and two-player local cooperative play. The controls are entirely motion-based, requiring players to swing their arms to use lightsabers, perform jumping motions, steer pod racers with leaning gestures, and dance by mimicking on-screen prompts. The game makes extensive use of Xbox 360 Avatars and includes voice command features in select segments.
The game received mixed reviews from critics and players. While the Star Wars branding and variety of modes were praised, the motion controls were frequently criticized for being unresponsive or imprecise, especially in combat-oriented sequences. On Metacritic, the game holds an average score in the low 50s, reflecting a generally lukewarm reception despite strong fan interest at launch.
