NeverDead is a third-person action game developed by Rebellion Developments and published by Konami, released in 2012 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The game features a unique twist on traditional shooters by centering around Bryce Boltzmann, an immortal demon hunter cursed with eternal life.
Set in a modern-day city overrun by demonic forces, players control Bryce as he battles supernatural enemies alongside his human partner, Arcadia. The game’s standout mechanic is Bryce’s immortality—he can lose limbs or even his head during combat, but players can reattach body parts or continue fighting in a dismembered state. This system introduces unconventional strategies and physics-based puzzles throughout the campaign.
Combat involves both ranged and melee attacks, with upgradeable weapons and abilities. Environmental destruction plays a role in both combat and navigation, and the game features a linear progression through various levels. A few timed objectives and escort missions are included as well.
Reception to NeverDead was mixed. While the game was recognized for its creative premise and unconventional mechanics, critics frequently cited issues with controls, repetitive gameplay, and awkward design choices. The Xbox 360 version holds a Metacritic score in the mid-50s.
