Stormrise is a real-time strategy game developed by Creative Assembly and published by Sega in 2009 for the Xbox 360. Set in a post-apocalyptic future, the game centers on two factions: the Echelon, technologically advanced humans, and the Sai, mutated survivors who have adapted to the harsh environment. The narrative unfolds through a series of missions where players control units in a third-person perspective, aiming to outmaneuver and defeat the opposing faction.

The gameplay introduces the “Whip Select” system, allowing players to command units by directing a beam towards them, a feature designed to adapt the real-time strategy genre for console play. Unlike traditional RTS games, Stormrise eliminates base-building mechanics, focusing instead on capturing control points to deploy units and manage resources. This approach emphasizes tactical positioning and strategic planning over economic management.

Upon release, Stormrise received mixed reviews. Critics appreciated the innovative control scheme and the game’s attempt to bring RTS elements to consoles, but many felt that the execution was lacking. Issues such as a steep learning curve, limited strategic depth, and a convoluted camera system were commonly cited drawbacks. Despite these criticisms, some players found the game to be a unique and ambitious entry in the RTS genre.
