Grand Theft Auto V is an open-world action-adventure game set in the fictional state of San Andreas, primarily focused on the city of Los Santos and its surrounding areas. Players alternate between three protagonists—Michael, Franklin, and Trevor—each with distinct backgrounds and motivations. The game’s narrative weaves together heists, personal conflicts, and the consequences of crime in contemporary urban life.

The gameplay allows for large-scale exploration on foot or by vehicle, with a wide variety of activities beyond the main story missions, including side missions, sports, random world events, property investments, and flying. Combat includes both shooting and melee, and there is a strong emphasis on driving and environmental interaction. The map is detailed and densely populated, with realistic traffic, wildlife, and dynamic weather systems.

The Xbox One version offers technical enhancements over the previous generation (Xbox 360), including higher resolution, improved draw distances, denser traffic, additional wildlife, enhanced damage and weather effects, and new content such as extra weapons, vehicles, and activities. It also includes Grand Theft Auto Online, which supports up to 30 players in shared, evolving online sessions.
