Aliens Versus Predator: Extinction is a real-time strategy game set in the science fiction universe of the Alien and Predator franchises. Players can choose to command one of three factions: the Colonial Marines, the Predators, or the Aliens. Each faction features distinct units, abilities, and tactical strategies that align with their respective lore.

The game consists of 21 missions, divided equally among the three factions. Colonial Marines rely on ranged weapons, heavy machinery, and air-dropped reinforcements. Predators focus on stealth, honor-based unit deployment, and powerful individual fighters. Aliens use swarm tactics, evolving their units from captured hosts and spreading their hive influence across the battlefield.

Unlike many traditional real-time strategy games, Extinction does not include base-building mechanics. Instead, the gameplay centers on unit management, map control, and adaptation to changing mission objectives. All gameplay is designed for controller-based input, with the interface optimized for console use.
