Call of Duty 3 is a first-person shooter developed by Treyarch and published by Activision. It was released in 2006 for PlayStation 2, Xbox, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii. It was a launch title for PlayStation 3 and Wii in multiple regions and is notable as the only major Call of Duty installment not released on PC.
The game is set during the Battle of Normandy in 1944 and follows American, British, Canadian, and Polish soldiers through 14 missions. Players engage in infantry combat, vehicle operations, and close-quarters battles. The campaign features seamless progression without traditional menus.
Multiplayer modes support up to 24 players on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and up to 16 players on PlayStation 2 and Xbox. Modes include Team Battle, Capture the Flag, War, and Headquarters. Players can select from different soldier classes, each with unique abilities and weapons.
Upon release, Call of Duty 3 received positive reviews for its engaging campaign, improved graphics, and sound design, earning the 2007 Outstanding Achievement in Sound Design award from the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences. Retrospective views note some lack of innovation compared to previous entries.
