Year: 2005
System: Microsoft Xbox

Evil Dead: Regeneration is a third-person action-adventure game developed by Cranky Pants Games and published by THQ for the Xbox, PlayStation 2, and Windows in 2005. Based on the Evil Dead film franchise, the game features series protagonist Ash Williams in an alternate storyline that diverges from the events of Army of Darkness.

Set in a world where Ash has been committed to an asylum after failing to stop the Necronomicon’s evil, the story introduces a new narrative in which Ash teams up with Sam, a half-Deadite sidekick, to battle hordes of undead creatures. The gameplay combines melee combat, firearms, and puzzle-solving across linear levels filled with enemies and environmental hazards.

Players use Ash’s signature chainsaw and shotgun, along with unlockable weapons and special abilities. One of the game’s core features is the ability to command or control Sam to access hard-to-reach areas or solve specific challenges. The combat is fast-paced, with upgradeable skills and frequent encounters with large groups of enemies.

The Xbox version provides fluid performance, solid visuals, and full voice acting, including Bruce Campbell reprising his role as Ash. The game is strictly single-player, with no online or multiplayer features.

Evil Dead: Regeneration received mixed to positive reviews. It was praised for its humor, voice acting, and combat mechanics, though some criticism was directed at repetitive gameplay. The Xbox version holds a Metacritic score of 69/100.
