Genre: Action-adventure / Hack and slash
Developer: Capcom

Year: 2002
System: Microsoft Xbox

Genma Onimusha is an enhanced version of Onimusha: Warlords, originally released for PlayStation 2, rebuilt specifically for the Xbox with additional features and improved visuals. Developed and published by Capcom, the game blends samurai-era Japan with supernatural horror elements in a cinematic action-adventure format.

Set in the Sengoku period, the game follows samurai Samanosuke Akechi as he battles demonic forces known as Genma who have allied themselves with the evil warlord Nobunaga Oda. Armed with a mystical gauntlet that allows him to absorb the souls of defeated enemies, Samanosuke traverses a war-torn castle filled with traps, puzzles, and enemies to rescue a kidnapped princess and stop a growing demonic threat.

The Xbox version adds new content not present in the PlayStation 2 release, including additional enemy types, increased difficulty, rebalanced gameplay, and new areas to explore. One notable gameplay change is the appearance of a green soul type that can power up enemies if not absorbed quickly, adding an extra layer of urgency to combat.

Genma Onimusha was generally well received for its atmospheric presentation, engaging combat, and improved graphical effects on the Xbox platform. The game holds a Metacritic score of 78/100.
