GoldenEye: Rogue Agent is a first-person shooter developed by EA Los Angeles and published by Electronic Arts for the Xbox, PlayStation 2, and GameCube in 2004. Despite its title, the game is not a continuation of the Nintendo 64 classic GoldenEye 007, but instead presents an alternate narrative within the James Bond universe, where players assume the role of a villain rather than a hero.

The story follows a former MI6 agent, codenamed “GoldenEye”, who is dismissed for excessive brutality and subsequently recruited by the criminal mastermind Auric Goldfinger. As an enforcer in the criminal underworld, the player takes on missions to undermine rival villains such as Dr. No and to establish dominance in a world of espionage and betrayal. The title character’s artificial golden eye grants him special abilities, such as MRI vision, a magnetic field, and a remote hacking tool.

Gameplay centers around traditional FPS mechanics, enhanced with dual-wielded weapons and interactive environmental kills. The Xbox version includes a single-player campaign and supports both split-screen multiplayer and online play via Xbox Live, with various game modes and character customization options.

GoldenEye: Rogue Agent received mixed reviews. While the concept of playing as a villain and the use of iconic Bond environments and characters were noted positively, the game was criticized for its uninspired gameplay and lack of depth. The Xbox version holds a Metacritic score of 61/100.
