Headhunter: Redemption is the sequel to the Dreamcast and PlayStation 2 title Headhunter, continuing its blend of stealth-action gameplay and science fiction storytelling. Developed by the Swedish studio Amuze and published by Sega, the game was released for Microsoft Xbox and PlayStation 2 in 2004.
Set twenty years after the original game, Headhunter: Redemption presents a dystopian future where society is divided into two strata: the affluent dwell in a pristine, high-tech zone above ground, while the impoverished masses live in the decaying “Below.” Players control two protagonists—Jack Wade, returning from the first game, and newcomer Leeza X. Switching between the two characters is essential to solving puzzles and progressing through missions, as each has different abilities suited to stealth or combat scenarios.
The game combines third-person shooting mechanics with cover-based tactics and light stealth elements. It features a variety of futuristic weapons and gadgets, and the narrative is driven by themes of control, loss, and resistance against corporate power. The visual style reflects the duality of the game world, contrasting sterile environments with gritty, urban decay.
Headhunter: Redemption received mixed reviews at launch, with praise for its atmosphere and storyline, while some criticism was directed at its gameplay execution. Despite this, it remains a notable example of mid-2000s sci-fi action design on the Xbox platform.
