MechAssault is a third-person mech combat game developed by Day 1 Studios and published by Microsoft Game Studios for the Xbox in 2002. Set in the BattleTech universe, the game places players in control of heavily armed walking tanks known as BattleMechs, battling enemies across war-torn planets.

The single-player campaign follows a lone MechWarrior assigned to liberate a planet controlled by a fanatical cult. Players pilot a variety of mechs, each with unique weapon loadouts, armor levels, and speed profiles. Missions range from search-and-destroy to escort and base defense, with destructible environments playing a key role in combat strategy.

The Xbox version was one of the first games to support Xbox Live online multiplayer, featuring modes like deathmatch and team-based combat. It also includes system link and split-screen options. Multiplayer allowed players to choose different mechs and compete in competitive or cooperative missions.

MechAssault was praised for its fast-paced action, polished presentation, and impressive destruction effects. It was considered a showcase title for Xbox Live at launch. The game holds a Metacritic score of 87/100.
