Project Zero, known as Fatal Frame in North America, is a survival horror game developed by Tecmo and published for Xbox by Microsoft Game Studios. Originally released for PlayStation 2, the Xbox version followed in 2002 with enhanced visuals and bonus content, including new costumes and a special “Fatal Mode.”

The story follows Miku Hinasaki, a teenage girl who enters the haunted Himuro Mansion in search of her missing brother. Armed with the Camera Obscura—a supernatural device capable of exorcising spirits—Miku must explore the dark, atmospheric corridors of the mansion, uncovering its tragic history and facing off against hostile ghosts.

Gameplay focuses on exploration, puzzle-solving, and combat using the camera. Players must frame ghosts in the viewfinder and time shots carefully to weaken or banish them. The Xbox version supports improved lighting effects and higher resolution textures, enhancing the game’s eerie tone and atmosphere.

Project Zero received positive reviews for its chilling atmosphere, original combat mechanics, and strong narrative. The Xbox version holds a Metacritic score of 74/100.
