Sonic Heroes is a 3D platformer developed by Sonic Team and published by Sega. Released in 2004 for Xbox, PlayStation 2, Nintendo GameCube, and Windows, the game introduced a new gameplay system built around controlling three-character teams, each with unique abilities that players switch between in real time.

The story centers on four different teams—Team Sonic, Team Dark, Team Rose, and Team Chaotix—each with their own narrative paths and gameplay difficulty. All teams share the same stages, but level design and objectives vary slightly depending on the chosen team. Each trio features a speed character, a flight character, and a power character, and success in levels requires players to switch strategically among them to overcome platforming challenges and defeat enemies.

The Xbox version of Sonic Heroes features smoother graphics and performance compared to some other console versions. The game also includes bonus stages, boss battles, and unlockable content such as secret characters and a final story mode.

Sonic Heroes marked the first multi-platform release in the franchise’s main series and introduced a team-based approach that set it apart from earlier Sonic titles.
